My husband and I were driving around a few weeks ago looking for a nearby pizza place to eat dinner. The two closest restaurants both serve great tasting pizza and are equally priced. The only difference between the two is that one has a professional logo and the other has a prefabricated pizza sign.
No matter how similar their pizza is in taste, we nearly always end up choosing the place with the nicer logo and professionally printed menus. I think subconsciously I believe that they put more care into their food because they put care and money into their company identity.
We have all had experiences like this even if sometimes these feelings are subconscious. We have all been in situations where a great logo helped us make the decision where to eat, stay or visit. As a small business owner you must be consistently aware of your competition and stay one step ahead of them. As you probably already know, your business is your “baby.” Sometimes you must ask yourself, “How much is my baby worth?” Do you want to have a nice looking, highly recognizable brand? Or be stale and forgettable?
All of these cost money and time, and as the old adage goes:
You must spend money to make money!
By hiring a quality graphic artist, you put your company in the hands of a professional. I wouldn’t go outside with a jackhammer and start working on the road, so why would you want do your own design work? Leave it to the experts.
With design firms, an expert designer will meet with you to discuss the wants and needs for your business. Your money goes towards hours of research in your target market to develop a look and feel personalized to your needs.
You could pay your uncle Joe to throw together a logo in Word, but you wouldn’t get the customized attention that a design firm can provide.
So before you skip hiring a professional designer for your company’s needs ask yourself, “Do I want to show the world that I own a reputable trustworthy company”
